Senate Minority Whip Sen. John Kyl expressed "regret" for remarks made by a fellow Republican senator on health care reform Sunday. Sen. Jim DeMint was quote by Politico as saying "If we are able to stop Obama on this it will be his Waterloo. It will break him."

Sen. John Kyl told Fox News' Brett Baier that those remarks were "unfortunate." "I don't agree with that language," he said. But, tellingly, he didn't disagree with the sentiments, his weasel words trying to deflect the political calculus of it all:

BAIER: Senator, your colleague from South Carolina, Jim DeMint said this this week: “If we’re able to stop Obama on this it will be his Waterloo. It will break him.”

Your colleague from Oklahoma, Sen. Jim Inhofe said this: “We can stall the Democratic effort on health reform. We can stall it. And that’s going to be a huge gain for those of us who want to turn this thing over in the 2010 election.”

Senator Kyl, do you agree with them?

KYL: I don’t agree with that kind of language. I know what Jim DeMint has said is he wanted to break the momentum of the inevitability of passing these liberal health care bills. They said we had to pass stimulus and do it immediately or else the economy would see 10% or 8% unemployment, it’s now gone to 10%. And what we’re saying is slow this down, so that we don’t do…we don’t make another bad mistake here. But I do think that because the language has political implications, it’s unfortunate. Both sides talk about the politics of these issues. I don’t think we ought to be focused on that.

Kyl is nothing but a big, fat liar. OF COURSE they're speaking of political implications, because that's their focus. They don't care about the 76% of Americans who want health care reform. They don't care about the 145,000 Americans who will lose their health insurance over the month of August alone. Plain and simple: They don't care about Americans.

What they DO care about is regaining a majority again to stymie any success Obama might have in his first term in office, much like Newt Gingrich and his Contract On For America did in 1994. This is ALL about politics for the republicans and Kyl knows it. At least DeMint and Inhofe have the intellectual honesty to admit it.

for higher office...

And Frist!

Hearing the national anthem (not sung by Palin, thankfully...) is likely to be the highlight.

Update--she's going on and on and on...Looks like I have time to make a beer run and throw some popcorn in the m'wave...

having to watch this stuff.

Nicole, I don't think that they thought anybody in the far left librul media would repeat it since there is no such thing as a far left librul media.

Oh, now they want to go slow. What about the Patriot Act and Bush/Paulson bailout to their friends on Wall St. that they couldn't wait to do.

which the Republicans we're preparing for during Clinton.

Of course if Gore had won we wouldn't have invaded Iraq and bankrupted ourselves.

Family doctors and internists are pressing Congress for an increase in their Medicare payments. But medical specialists are lobbying against any change that would cut their reimbursements.

Doctors against Doctors . . wonderful. (The specialists are with the insurance crooks obviously)

Plus primary care physicians only make a measly 125,000 to 225,000 a year so they want more money.

Dude there are NURSES that I work with that make six figures. It's ridiculous. I think 125K for a primary MD is a bargain. I know some specialists that take a million dollar sign on contract with ONE hospital to provide services. Then they bill the insurances/Medicare for their treatments. Then they can add in department director stipends, committee stipends, and legal consultant fees. You can easily spot them. They HATE Obama and watch Fox news exclusively. Their exclusive parking lot looks like a Porsche dealership.

. . .

I say the continued existence of the rethug party and all of its immoral, hypocritical members is unfortunate.

"Sen. John Kyl expressed "regret" for remarks made by a fellow Republican senator on health care reform Sunday. Sen. Jim DeMint was quote by Politico as saying "If we are able to stop Obama on this it will be his Waterloo. It will break him.""

He only "regrets" it because DeMint said it out loud. DeMint didn't understand Luntz stalking point #32 which says never let anybody hear you say this out loud.

"At least DeMint and Inhofe have the intellectual honesty stupidity to admit it."

FIFY

How does this whole Waterloo concept work?

If the republicans (and the republicrats) succeed in derailing health care reform for Americans, and we Americans get no escape from the horrendous health insurance disaster that is eating us alive...why is it that we will vote for the party (as well as the Blue-Cross Dems) that succeeded in crippling our hopes?

These people are bragging about bringing Obama down. But if they bring him down, they bring us down.

What am I missing with their logic?

They just talk about themselves and serve their self interest 24/7. People and institutions are pawns that they use to get to their perceived goals. They are a party of users that will do anything to get their way, including invoking blatant hypocrisy.

They don't think like us and not surprisingly, are rejected by 2/3 of the voters. While it's tempting to ask why these schmucks can't be more like us the reality is they never will. We shouldn't give them credit for any competency because fundamentally, they are not and never will be. They are a malignant cancer on our political system.

What you are missing is the in-your-face racism that this mafia in DC love and are actively practicing, racists who hate black men esp. mixed breeds, and want to harrass O-bought-ma out of existence, and that certainly includes the 'birthers'. He was supposed to be their 'boy' Rahm assured them, he would make O-bought-ma heel properly.

??

This really doesn't answer my question.

My question is, how does a republican party that destroys your and my chances of reform rationalize that we will vote them into office?

Their motives may be racist, but their lack of logic and reason are breathtaking if they think they're endearing us to them.

...they become human speed bumps, defining their value in public life by the number of obstacles they can throw in the path of people who are trying to do things. They did it during the New Deal, during the runup to World War II, during the Civil Rights Era, and they're doing it now.

And just as they had anti-Red hysteria to distract people a few decades ago, they have racial hysteria now. Don't think for a minute that the race-baiting bastards on the other side weren't slavering when that Gates thing came down. They intend to deal the race card from the bottom of the deck, as often as they can.

The GOP is the party of plurality plus one and nothing else matters. Heck they will even screw members of their plurality once they've got their votes. Raw power is their goal and that end justifies almost any means.

and how to deny them basic human needs. I am sick and fucking tired of hearing about his and the fucking dems do nothing but rely on the kindness of strangers. Get some shit done in the next 3.5 years and I might vote democrat.

SEMPER FI!

Anyone who has not seen Sicko should do so. The puppeteers of big Pharm and big Insurance are pulling the strings that are moving Jon Kyl's mouth.

I am nominating a new word for entry into today's lexicon: "Rightard" . Used in conversation, "It is unfortunate for the American people that so many "Rightards" are trashing any attempt at meaningful healthcare reform."

There fixed it for you.

The Rethug's all but destroyed the country , that wasn't enough for them and they are not done yet , now their only mission is to sabotage anything and everything Obama and the Dems try to accomplish . Damn these scum bags and the absolute pea brains who support them ! There ought to be an IQ test that one must pass before being allowed to vote , the Repug party would be history .

Anyone who want gov. 'service' should have to take a psychological test, and an IQ test.

"But I do think that because the language has political implications, it’s unfortunate."

Kyl does not say anything about the tactic. He was only sorry the words were said in public. The whole Republican Party still wants to bring down Obama and they are still going to use DeMint's tactic to try to do it. At Huffington Post they are saying "Split Growing In GOP Over Obama's Health Care Reform" but that is not true. As I said they are only upset that DeMint said it publicly.

Faux news has always a lie fest, platform for Reslug's hate monguering.
