Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) called out Rep. Steve King (R-IA) during a hearing on Internet piracy Thursday for tweeting that she was boring.
"We are debating the Stop Online Piracy Act and Shiela [sic] Jackson has so bored me that I'm killing time by surfing the Internet," King wrote in a post on Twitter.
During the hearing, Jackson Lee took "a moment of personal privilege" to object to King's comment.
"I have no reason to think that anybody cares about my words, but I would offer to say that Mr. King owes the committee and apology," she explained. "I've never known Mr. King to have a multi-task capacity, but if that is his ability, I do think it's inappropriate while we're talking about serious issues to have a member of the Judiciary Committee be so offensive."
With that, Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner (R-WI) spoke up to "demand the gentlewoman's words" be stricken from the record.
"Well, I'm not taking them down," Jackson Lee insisted. "So, you can break this hearing because I'm not."
But after nearly 15 minutes of continued pressure from Sensenbrenner and House Judiciary Chairman Lamar Smith (R-TX), Jackson Lee relented and changed the word "offensive" to "impolitic and unkind."
At the time of publication, King had not offered an apology for his tweet.
