Newt Gingrich would have taken out the North Korea missile if he were president

Newt Gingrich told Fox's Chris Wallace that he would have disabled North Korea's missile before it could have launched.
"There are three or four techniques that could have been used, from unconventional forces to standoff capabilities, to say: 'We're not going to tolerate a North Korean missile launch, period.' I mean, the world's either got to decide that North Korea is utterly dangerous -- I'd recommend, look at electromagnetic pulse, which changes every equation about how risky these weapons are," explained Gingrich.

That Newt sure is a card. Let's just attack another country once again. Isn't that considered an act of war? In wingnut world, George Bush was a genius when he made a deal with Kim Jong Il. And GW even boasted about taking them off his terror list: I am notifying Congress of my intent to rescind North Korean's designation as a state sponsor of terror in 45 days.

The military has bombs that are a closed circuit type self contained generator (thingy) with a couple of miles of coiled wire...all self contained in bomb package. its gets turned on before it gets dropped and it generates a billion volt circuit (as it falls) and then an explosive charge cuts all the coiled wires inside of it...the result is a harmful electro magnetic particle burst that can destroy unprotected electronic equipment...
The other is a nuclear weapon. (fission and fusion bombs) also produce particle/radiation bursts that disable electronics.

newt is a nutball, but this post is out of context, and as a result makes you look dumb.
Unless I'm mistaken - I think Newt is talking about the same technology that was used (in theory) to bring down Wellstone's plane - killing him, his wife and his daughter among others. I heard that Cheney has investigated it and it's uses.
So we know the technology is there - but could it have done what Newt is talking about? I doubt if they could have gotten a fix on ANY missile at this point. They would also have had to be close enough to target the missile to begin with - and that seems impossible.

I'm reasonable informed about current US weapons. The only way we currently have to create an EMP is to detonate a nuke. Unless Newt knows something top secret, in which case he just gave away a top secret on national TV. Hmmmm.
