Republican pollster Frank Luntz said Sunday that there was "no room" in the Republican presidential race for Sarah Palin, but there was space for New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI).

"Karl Rove has said that he thinks Sarah Palin is going to run," ABC's Jake Tapper told Luntz. "Do you think Sarah Palin is going to run?"

"I don't think she can," Luntz replied. "Michele Bachmann and Sarah Palin operate in the exact same space. They have similar personalities. They attract similar voters. There's no space for her right now. There's a space for Chris Christie, if he decided to do it, or for Paul Ryan. But I don't see it for Sarah Palin."

"Chris Christie has the advantage he's basically a blue-collar Republican. He says what he means, he's in your face and Republicans love that. They see what he's doing in New Jersey and they want to see that happen in Washington. And Paul Ryan's case, they regard him as one of the smartest candidates, the intellectual capacity, and he's got a plan."

bachmann has out-palined palin. She's considerably more articulate and even crazier. palin's career has been reduced to a future appearance on 'Dancing with the Stars'.

The horror, the horror...

God, I hope she wins the nod.

I think it was kind of awful for the people running the show and the other contestants when her daughter was on the show.

ikalbertus's picture

no one on the show got her pregnant.

...that we know about, anyway.

of course, it's early yet..........................

"They've got plans. They've got principles. They're seen as electable."

WTF? Nevermind the dubious definitions of the first two, but the third? Maybe instead of electable, he meant predictable...

The two most destructive forces in the past 20 years have been Frank Luntz and Grover Norquist.

If these guys dropped off the planet today we would all be better off.

KarlaFurr's picture

I would add Karl Rove to that list.

a thug. What an insult to blue collar people. What this guy means is that he doesn't seem all that educated and has little polish or manners. Therefore, he's "blue collar". Screw him.

ikalbertus's picture

actually work for a living if they can find work. Chris Christie offers nothing to society. Just another leech.

I was thinking about how many more millions of votes Democrats could get if we had IN YOUR FACE progressives who followed through on what they said they were going to do, instead of this timid questionable capitulator (or possible soft spoken Trojan Horse Republican) that we currently have in the White House - not to mention corporate owned Democrats that currently comprise Congress.

What we need is "I'm going to kick your fucking teeth down your throat" progressives - and I ASSURE you it would get more support and respect than these timid passive compromised wimps we currently have for Democrats - and batshit crazy Republicans.

Americans respect tough people. Why can't we be tough - for compassion, empathy, justice and doing what is right?

Leeda Marie's picture

Somehow I don't think one can be compassionate and thuggish at the same time.....unless maybe one is a spousal abuser or something??

Not that progressives need to be hateful or vicious like so many Republicans, but they need to make it clear that if "you hit me I will hit you back, and harder." When Republicans lie they will be called out. And most of all they cannot be free to frame the issues on their terms (Barry?).

Alan Grayson, Anthony Weiner, Barney Franks, Bernie Sanders... A good start, but we need more.

Alleged wordsmith and notable Palm Beach fatman- impersonator Luntz is a LIAR. He KNOWS he's a LIAR and promotes it...

Yep.

Luntz is a smug, self-satisfied sociopath. He sits there with a shit-eating smirk on his face because he KNOWS he'll never be called on his lies.

Just 'Cos You Got the Power...THAT DON'T MEAN YOU GOT THE RIGHT!

Republicans may like the "in your face" approach by Christie, but I don't think the rest of America does. If Paul Ryan does run, he would be one of the easiest to beat, Who really cares if he has this so-called "plan", people already know how bad it is, and bad for the economy let alone the country. Ryan is alreadt a laughing stock....!

aceshigh's picture

Republicans are the only ones doing the talking right now.

In a vacuum of leadership, a thug like Christie could EASILY take America by storm.

'Murrcans are vulgar, mean-spirited people who like bullies. Christie is tailor-made for the country we've descended into.

Just 'Cos You Got the Power...THAT DON'T MEAN YOU GOT THE RIGHT!

Christie is an uncaring Reslug asshole and New Jersey agrees.

Dark_Hawk_98's picture

has been a blue collar Republican is when he wore a blue colored dress shirt to a Republican fund raiser. He is a LAWYER good gracious sakes a live. There is NOTHING blue color about a former US Attorney except the color of his shirt and suit jacket.

Frank Lutz is just doing his "word magic" again. He is attempting to manipulate the messaging as is his role in the Republican Party.

Paul1968's picture

Christie's collar is only blue when the blueberries he is stuffing his face with dribbles on his collar. I thought Republicans hated lawyers.

Rep. Ryan has trouble keeping control of his town hall meetings in his very red district. I do not think people will forgive him for his Social Security and Medicare proposals.

Frank Luntz is a propagandist. He prays what he says will be taken as gospel.

CaliforniaMike's picture

Ryan wouldn't get 5 percent of the votes from anyone over 55, and I'm not sure younger voters would go for him either. He may be intelligent, but he's smarmy in the same way Newt is -- two guys who think they're smarter than everyone else.

Just having a plan doesn't mean anything. The Final Solution was a plan.

And never forget that Crisp Crispy spent the blizzard of 2010 in FL at DisneyWorld. He couldn't be bothered to come back and deal with a natural disaster.

As president he would run and hide from the problems this nation faces. He's a loser, quitter just like Failin' Palin.

Mr. Luntz must be colorblind, because the best color to describe Gov. Christie's "in-your-face" attitude in shirt form is BROWN...

Why is Donna Brazile on every week?

She's a FAILURE. She blew Gore's campaign, which should have been the easiest fucking cakewalk on the planet.

I'm so sick of seeing LOSER Democrats on these talk shows. I want FIGHTING LIBERALS, not these corporate **********s who can't articulate progressive principles to save their lives.

Chrisdutch's picture

As a long time resident of the great state of New Jersey with it's beautiful beaches, great rock music with the Boss, Southside Johnny, the Four Seasons etc, and lovely farm areas I would have no problem with Chris Christie running for president because the sooner we get his fat, ignorant, incompetent and corrupt ass out of the Garden State the better.

You don't get this "fat, ignorant, incompetent and corrupt ass" out of NJ by giving him the WH. NJ is still in the US.

even if what he means is idiotic and has no basis in fact or logic. he's a fat, obnoxious putz, who doesn't even have the socially redeeming quality of knowing what he's talking about most of the time. people can forgive fat and obnoxious, if it's accompanied by smarts. he's definitely got the fat & obnoxious parts down, he just lacks the smarts to make the whole acceptable package.

Unfortunately Chris Christie is neither a politician or a diplomat. He's just a loud mouth republican.

jpatuto11's picture

he has cafone [look it up also spelled gavone] all over him. But he ain't blue collar. He grew up in the suburbs to a wealthy family and lives in horse country. Maybe compared to the other losers in the Rethug party he seems blue collar, but just like anybody who lives in New York City ultimately becomes a little Jewish, anybody from North Jersey becomes a little Italian. Ok Christie is Italian American but his roots have withered. He is a neat trick of a Country Club Republican but has absorbed the Jersey attitude that we all have simply to survive. Meanwhile a blue collar type guy with real understanding of the working class wouldn't have cut aid to workers and woman's health, would have stuck it to his millionaire friends, and would respect teachers and unions. Blue collar my ass.

They regard Ryan as ONE of the smartest candidates. Who in hell else do they consider a 'smartest candidate?' They're all freakin losers who will do and say anything to cause Obama trouble. Best news of all - there's more than a year until election time and most of these candidates, smartest included will just be bad memories.
