President George W. Bush is warning Americans not to fall for scams trying to raise money off the disaster in Haiti.
"I need to put a pitch in for the clintonbushhaitifund.org," Bush told NBC's David Gregory. "One of my concerns is shysters show up and take advantage of people's good will and generosity. So people want to help, one avenue besides the established NGO's would be to tap on that website and we'll help make sure your money is spent in a transparent accountable way," he said.
before I'd give money to anything w/ Bush OR Clinton's name on it.
As for "looking out for shysters," a 'shyster' is "a person who is professionally unscrupulous especially in the practice of law or politics," asswipe, eg, in law, John Yoo or Alberto Gonzales; in the field of politics, you and The Dick; and in law AND politics, Scooter Libby and Jack Abramoff.

I got a text message today. I don't know where it came from, but it gave me instructions to send money to Haiti. I deleted it. I've already given via the Red Cross website. My guess is that it would be easy to find a way to send out these kind of messages, and direct people to give money under false pretenses.
Believe me, I'm not a Bush fan, but he's right on this.

A crisis like this could result an revolt among the population at large against going back to business as usual.
They have the spotlight on them and with the aid pouring in, now is the time that popular movement for some semblance of democracy to gain traction.
The two proved they were no friends of the Haitian people but have an interest to assuring things stay the same with the corporate friendly administration installed in 2004.
This seemingly bold move keeps the cameras on them and off any voices for real change that would raise Haiti from being the basket case of the Caribbean.

IMHO, I think the president was trying to be charitable toward "W." It would have made "W' look bad had he refused. I also thought he shouldn't have asked "W" to participate. He would have been my last choice because he's done nothing to help the less fortunate since he left office, but he has spent a lot of time padding his pockets with his "motivational speaking tours." I donated through WH.gov to the Red Cross before Limppaw told his listeners not to donate through the WH site because Obama would take their money. My receipt was issued from the RC, not the WH.
