President Barack Obama asked University of Maryland students to help him pass health care reform at a rally Thursday. Boos could be heard as the president mentioned a bill from the Senate Finance Committee chaired by Sen. Max Baucus.
"POTUS mentions Baucus bill -- it gets booed," wrote ABC's Jake Tapper.

teabaggers.
Boycott Tyson Foods of Arkansas who gave Mike Ross D- Arkansas money for his campaigns. Call lobbyist for Tyson Foods Chuck Penry 202 393 3921 and tell him politely that you refuse to buy Tyson chicken until Mike Ross D-Arkansas the leader of the Blue Dogs on health care gets the entire house and senate conservative Democrats to help get HR 676 enacted into law. Tell others to call. Send me email after you call to info@democratz.org
Boycott American Express who gave Max Baucus $50,000 for his campaigns. Call Joanna Lambert at 212 640 9668 and politely tell her you will not use any American Express cards until Max Baucus gets HR 676 enacted into law. Email me after you call.
I'm a Vegan, so Tyson Foods is already on my shit list. An utterly vile company.
Wah?!
... not Obama.
an impromptu "boo" is FAR worse that the scripted tactic of screaming a congressperson down so he can't talk to the people who came to hear him. Yep.
Ass.
threw this comment out to get a reaction. He sure got one. I hope he endorses reconciliation when he does the talk show circuit this weekend.
that this bill was NOT meant to pass. Either it would get watered down to the point where it had no D support, and Obama would veto it, or it would get to his desk without the Public Option and he would veto it.
Probably it was only meant to flush the corporate shills out into the open and inflame the opinion of the public.
I will be really surprised if the Baucus bill is enacted. We can and must do better than this.
You will be more than just surprised if the Baucus bill becomes law.
YOU, AND ALL OF THE REST OF US WILL BE SCREWED!
To make us launch a Progressive Party in this country!!!
There will have to be SOME tipping point to make it happen!
I say it might happen when all the Americans who weren't paying attention continue to go without insurance then think they're getting a "tax refund" and SURPRISE, SURPRISE!!! Your refund just go sucked out of the bank by the I.R.S. to satisfy the FINE/PENALTY YOU INCURRED BY NOT COMPLYING WITH THE LAW!!!!!!!!!
"You say you want a revolution??!!"
I want a revolution that is very damaging to every corporate 'person'. I want hackers to destroy them, employees to desert them, I want to see tar/feathers for ea. CEO/Lobbist/Congresscritter.
I didn't hear of any cap on the 13% pool . . . so someone making $3 million a year would be paying nearly $400,000.00 per year for their part of the healthcare pool. Yeah, that'll go over well.
It's a win win for big Insurance:

Baucus and Conrad; opposite ends of the same asshole!
These two dipshits need a little LBJ treatment. "Get with the program, or you can look to the loser republicans for support the next time you run. You want to run against a democratic primary challenger on the republican anti-public option platform? In a democratic primary? Good luck with that Kent!"
This is not your typical mamby pamby piece of legislation. Everyone who has a "D" next to their name should support the people on this; or be pushed out the door - or into the GOP if they choose. Then we can have a real democrat take their seat in the next election.
Baucus served up the American people to the insurance slime bags
This bill does nothing but help the insurance companies along even more. It doesn't go nearly far enough. And no public option? Hopefully I will see single payor/medicare for all before my life is over. The insurance companies are just an unneccesary middle man making undeserved money.

Obama: Look here, guys! I campaigned strongly on healthcare reform that included a strong public option. The people of the United States elected me with a 52%/45% margin. It's time that those of you in Congress follow the wishes of your constituencies and pass this bill. Anything less would be an affront to the voters of this country and, as such, would be unacceptable!
Cheers for the public option.
With all that's happened, including over the last weeks and days, it would be really stupid to not pass public option health insurance. All the protesting is indicative of the obscene profits without a public option. The protesters loose their own argument by protesting too much - the greedy bastards. They can't help themselves.
Even if all the things Repiglicans dread actually happen as a result of implementing a public option, it will still be worth it for the country. Anything they say or do now will be perceived as interference for selfish motives - most especially protesting a public option to compete with them.
The louder they squeal the more obvious it becomes that a public option is the answer.
Obama has spoken of his respect for Reagan.
It's time for him to take something out of Reagan's playbook.
Ask all his supporters to write to their congressmen - especially Republicans and blue dogs - in support of the health reform bill. Those blocking it think they're acting in their electoral interest. They need to be told differently by the people who matter most.
Reagan was asking people to write for tax cuts.
He failed to mention it was tax cuts mostly for the wealthy.
look at how Obama stands after his tag line that he is determined to be the last president to have to address health care reform. - he stands proud like he has been fighting tooth and nail and has gotten us to where we are in the debate today.
But I can't help thinking that if he really did come out and fight when the loons started coming out with their nonsense and BS. Obama should have stood up to the lies right then and there. Obama sitting in the background and not getting his message out there early and often is what got us to the place we are in the debate right now.
Let's just hope he is now seeing what the American people actually want: real health care reform with a strong public option (or better yet a single payer option) we need to sweep away the bullshit from the right and show America it can be done and that everyone will benefit from it. - if he does that he will have everyone in America on his side.
the people would not be aware of how many asses have been elected into Congress.
We needed to see this.
Now Obama needs to take charge.
The President kinda blew passed the boos. I really hope he "heard" them.
Yeah, he heard them. It was most likely what he was hoping for.
President Obama must...must continue the fight. This is about the financial health of the country as well as the physical health.
Family bankruptcies will dwarf the housing meltdown. We have to get a handle on the problem. It's got to be solved right. And a part of the solution is preventative medicine, simple taking better care of the body. Drug companies are not going to push that.
I'd be happy to see Obama begin to fight.
Health care reform is about as imporant an issue as America will ever face, and Obama hasn't even faced the facts that republicans and blue dogs only want to limit choice and raise the profits for the insurance companies. That is not what America wants.
If he doesn't figure this out then none of it will really matter.
Of course the Baucus bill is booed. It's not reform. It's a gift to the insurance goons. Eff this.
What I really want to know is:
Why is the Baucus bill such a big deal? It's not even the only healthcare bill in the Senate - so why the hell is it the bill that everyone is focused on?
It's like the HELP bill just doesn't exist.
or some bullshit. Why because they took the corpratite centist line and stalled the longest.
Obama at this point is full of empty words and nothing else. If he wanted reform he would of stepped up month agos. It's fast becomeing too late for any real healthcare reform. Even starting with this bill will lead to pain. It is doubtful the baucus bill can be changed enough to make it real reform.
But Obama refuses to go foward without Max Profit Baucus for some reason.
Notice though what has happened. By not entering the battle too soon, most of the republicans have come off looking like crazies, and support for the public option among the have grown. Also the time spent has weakened the Baucus bill to the point where there is no support in the senate, either among the Democratic or Republican senators, and most likely die a slow death in committee. The fact that people at the rally booed at the Baucus bill means that anyone supporting it could find that support being used against them during the next election. Not something too many politicians want.
Also I heard this same kind of complaint against President Obama before, during the campaign. Things like; "He should get in the fight sooner, he should hit back at his opponent harder", etc. Guess what? He didn't and he is still the President of the United States. I believe that shows he at least has some idea about how to handle the job.
Peace
Expose some GOP crazies or real heathcare reform I would of gone for real healthcare reform. And No they have wasted almost a year on this, and History shows healthcare reform has a time limit and were almost there. Hello they been saying they wouldn't support heathcare reform for months now Obama could of stepped in anytime.
If Obama is going by the same rules as running a campain then were not going to get anything from him.
...who has done such a terrible job on health care and whose own ideas and proposals are woefully inadequate to deal with the problems we face.
Anybody willing to cheer that loudly for Obama on health care is probably more than willing to accept a terrible bill and pretend it's really great.
I kinda agree with you. The insurance companies have lined the pockets of Democrats and Republicans for so long, it will be almost impossible to put them in their place. And I've got a feeling that any health care reform bill we finally do get will be so watered down, it won't make an ounce of difference.
Our rights to sue doctors that fuck up and hurt someone we love or ourselves will be made even harder to use. What no one seems to be talking about is the fact that we have had several round of tort reform over the years and it hasn't made the slightest difference.
Also we will be forced to buy overpriced under performance insurance plans and if we dare have enough to buy a plan that can get a plan that cover much need treatment we will be taxed by the government.
I could go on but seriously this current "starting" bill is a Bailout bill for the insurance companies that will just accelerate the hearth care crisis.
If you watch a few minutes later in the speech the crowd errupts into cheers when POTUS mentions the public option. There's still HOPE! Don't know how to post a longer version of the clip, but check it out on thinkprogress.org.
