Axelrod: Cheney 'having a hard time dealing' with GOP loss
By David Monday Feb 16, 2009 6:45am
President Barack Obama's Senior White House advisor responded to criticism from former vice president Dick Cheney.
"Apparently the vice president is having a hard time dealing with the verdict of the American people," said Axelrod.
Cheney has criticized the new administration's plans to close the detention center at Guantanamo Bay.
"When we get people who are more concerned about reading the rights to an al-Qaeda terrorist than they are with protecting the United States against people who are absolutely committed to do anything they can to kill Americans, then I worry," Cheney told Politico.
Axelrod hit back at Cheney this morning on NBC's Meet the Press.
"What he said here is really irresponsible," said Axelrod. "President Bush could not have been more generous in the transition in every conceivable way. When he left he said, 'I'm rooting for you guys. I hope you do well.' I believe that. Apparently the memo didn't go down the line."

Can't someone pour water on Cheney, make the swelling go down?
He needs to stop taking Viagra like it's candy.

"When we get people who are more concerned about reading the rights..."
That someone could reach the position in govt of power and authority that Cheney held while espousing the basic philosophy of Dirty Harry (My younger cleaner brother) it boggles the mind. That this person in his position was supposedly subordinate to someone who was a moron is just horrifying.
What Cheney has to say is only of interest to people who are concerned about bipartisanshit.
Never wrong are you Dick? You helped create these terrorist who desperately want to kill us.
I don't usually automatically buy into the hyperbole when someone says that so-and-so is "evil," but damn, Dick Cheney. That fucker really is truly EVIL. No two ways about it. It radiates from his pores.
It must be scary for his grandchildren.
Message to msm: Please, the next time you interview Cheney, get in to a discussion about the abuse he suffered as a child. Dude needs some introspection and a therapist.
during his 8 long years as VeePee.
This guy literally used the constitution as toilet paper. And not a single peep from the M$M.
This is directly related to this.

So does that mean some American arrested in China and charged with spying can be tortured into confessing, since they KNOW he's a spy, and we can't say anything about it?
Hopefully they won't sit him in a karaoke bar with Chinese contestants trying to sing:

The only complaining Cheney can do now is " Hey you get off my lawn."
“When people in charge are more concerned with the rights of residential terrorists to walk in front of my house than to protect my lawn against those who are determined to squash my Bahia Grass – I worry. We must seek out those who wish to walk on my lawn, and use any means necessary to prevent these trespasses. We can’t wait. Then next smoking gun will come in the form of my double-barrel.” – Cheney-Speak
The appropriate response to anything Cheney has to say is, "So?"...........
advice he so famously gave Senator Leahy.
but Mr. Axelrod was far more gracious that I am when it comes to Dick and his fellos asshats in the republican(t) party. Axelrod also makes a good point... they really can't believe they were defeated and that they were so frickin' far off the mark, if they've even allowed themselves one sentient thought.
When we get people running the country who can actually say that out loud it is way past worrying time.
I'm thinking of Spiro Agnew.
does seem to be a 'nattering nabob of negativity' these days, doesn't he.
Rumsfeld too.. Heck even Rove was playing for the College Republicans back then.
Tricky Dick, the gift that keeps on giving.
He is the poster boy why you have to prosecute these assholes. They are like a cancer: if you don't get rid of it right out, it will always grow back... and it will surely grow more virulent when it returns.
That is why I am so adamant about having these assholes prosecuted. I frankly believe that the Dems, as usual, are doing us all a disservice. I am literally terrified that the GOP will go back swinging next election cycle. With an even more evil and fascist cabal...
Heck, we should have kept a public database of everyone involved in the past WH. I am sure some of the interns or low level GOPers will grow to become even more evil and power hungry.
God help us all...
I dunno, what's agnew with you?
"Mr. Cheney's statements to the press are beginning to suggest a far more direct involvement in potential war crimes than we had previously imagined..."
read: Cheney and McCain and all the rest of the sore loser loser GOP are having a hard time dealing with their loss?
would be much more appropriate :-)
"Dick Cheney belongs before a judge and a jury for lying about Saddam Hussein's alleged WMD, lying about his efforts to obtain yellowcake uranium and lying about his role in the 9/11 terrorist attacks."
Just saying................
Why is Axelrod going so easy on Cheney? He should start talking about the unprecedented level of abuse of power, intell manipulation and factual distortions of all kinds that oozed out of Cheney's office for eight years.
If you don't forcefully put Dick down, it just encourages him to keep popping up.
American politics have devolved down to.
It is not surprising when you have 2 parties so similar, that the basically don't want to rock the boat or set forth a precedent that would jeopardize the nice racket they have going.
If the dems were to prosecute Bush/Cheney, they would have to answer why did they basically rubber stamped the Bush administration for 8 long years.
In other words, it ain't gonna happen.
.
And he is plotting something, of that I am sure.
Until that fucker is 6 ft under the ground, we should keep an eye. I am sure Cheney is evil enough to be plotting something with some rogue elements in the intelligence/security community... in order to put the Obama administration in such a pickle as to make it nonviable.
And thus paving the way, in Cheney's feeble little evil mind, for a GOP sweep next election cycle.
The guy is that fucking evil...
We should start a "Cheney Watch" web-site. So that at all times, day and night, we all know where he his and who he is plotting with.
What Cheney [and Bush] should be having a hard time dealing with is being in prison for the rest of his life for orchestrating war crimes against the people of Iraq and Afghanistan with Obama soon to join him for ordering unjustified air attacks against the citizens of Afghanistan and Pakistan.
ALL of the people who were sent to Guantanamo were guilty, because Cheney said they were.
?
never, and after he's been dead 30 years. Repeat after me:
These people will never be brought to justice. Sorry, you had your chance in 2004, but you re-selected them.
And by "you," I'm sure you mean figuratively, right?
Because I no more voted for them than "you" did, and that's likely true of almost everyone who posts on C&L.
I don't know where you think you are, but I'm pretty sure that
just about everyone here, except for Dennis, did not vote
for these fuckers either time they ran.
And, just in case you were sleeping through the first "election"
those losers at the Supreme Court handed GWB the presidency.
Please, please, please don't ever come here and insinuate or even
directly communicate that WE are responsible for this. Are you responsible for the actions of your heads of state?
Ah, I remember now, you are the guy that is going to hold us responsible for voting Obama into office. You need a hobby.
Based on their recent antics over the stim-pak, I'd say that no-one in the GOP has come to terms with the fact that they decisively lost the last two elections.
next time someone mentions the Dick the sociopath.
While Dick and his band of torturers were busy killing brown people, a funny thing happened... the USofA went bankrupt. Then, it got even funnier with republicans crying SOCIALISM, all this while being bailout by a communist country.
Why are Americans not asking for the defence budget to be cut in half? Couldn't ya'all use an extra 300-400 billion?
Dr. Evil continues to claw at the Demos from his Fuhrerbunker. What this psychotic fascist really need to worry about is the intentional erosion of our constitutional rights and abrogation by the US of signed treaties like the Geneva Convention which are far more damaging than his booga booga manipulative fearmongering.
Perhaps since Halliburton moved to Dubai - he will as well. I wonder if we have an extradition treaty with the Saudis?

dick is still in 9-11 cover-up mode. He will be till he kicks the bucket.
Stuck in a secret undisclosed location and unable to leave the country, because outside the boarders of this country he faces
charges as a war criminal. Probably getting a little out of sorts
about the situation. Tough shit!
I don't.
He's got to praise Bush.
Axelrod tells us that Bush is rooting for Obama.
Great.
Unlike Cheney.
Bush is OK.
What a bunch of dumbbells.
Why do you have to be such a dick?
"What he said here is really irresponsible," said Axelrod. "President Bush could not have been more generous in the transition in every conceivable way. When he left he said, 'I'm rooting for you guys. I hope you do well.' I believe that. Apparently the memo didn't go down the line."
So, he lied again, big deal!
As time goes on let's not fall into the "bush wasn't such a bad guy" trap just cuz he doesn't look as evil as cheney. That guy selfishly and callously screwed 90% of the country so his corporate buddies could profit.
Did you learn something about Cheney today from Axelrod? No? Oh, you weren't listening huh? Well please go back and think about what Axelrod actually said to you. He speaks for the majority of Americans. Maybe you can put his answer on a loop.
Good. I hope he's miserable. I hope that in his future, he'll have 'a hard time dealing' with' Prosecution for war crimes and RICO crimes.
Kudos to Axelrod for pointing out that Cheney's policies and stances have not always earned us the most "respect" around the world--as long as we're not defining respect as fear and loathing. The Obama administration should really just ignore any comments like these made by the former Vice-President. While Cheney may hold a sphere of influence over a minute group of Americans, the rest of the country seems to recognize the faults with his Guantanamo policies and the need to move ahead.
cheney had no respect for bush when he was in his administration, so why should we expect him to have any now? he filled every void that bush didn't fill due to his lack of experience and general incompetence, in essence creating an extra-constitutional shadow government beholden to no one. cheney is a traitor to the republic in every sense of the word. he reveals himself every time he opens his mouth to speak.
