Should We See Dramatic Evidence Of Torture On The World Stage?
Heather: Matthews brings in torture apologist David Rivkin to debate the ACLU's Jameel Jaffer on whether the U.S. should release the photos depicting torture of prisoners in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Of course the CIA is arguing against the release of the documents. Their disclosure would mean that someone at the CIA (or those that gave the orders to torture) is either going to be held criminally liable or at the very least get sued in civil court. The only danger here that Rivkin is crying about is that someone will be held accountable for their actions.
I just want to know when Rivkin is going to let Jesse Ventura waterboard him? Hannity wouldn't do it. I have no doubt Rivkin wouldn't either but he sure loves telling everyone how harmless waterboarding is at every opportunity.
The media rolls this guy out every time they need someone to defend the indefensible. Listening to him and the Cheney's defending torture is becoming something akin to fingers down a chalk board of late.

The fact we as a nation are debating the merits of torture disgusts me. But, do we need to see these photos? At that, do we need the world to see them? We know this stuff went on, and we know the photos would be yet another prime recruitment tool for the Taliban which is already gaining so much strength due to our failed wars.
The photos need to be released for prosecutions. If they are released to the public I dread the response our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan will face. The toll that will be paid by even more innocent Iraqis and Afghans who've lent their help to our military forces, their families and anyone else caught in the crossfire.
The only way the release of these photos could be positive is if they are used as evidence in a court of law to try and convict the people who enacted these policies from the top down and for there to be serious punishment for them. Otherwise, it will be just like Abu Graib again. A few low ranking people take the fall and our nation's image will be tarnished even further.
Obama needs to officially shut down Guantanamo, shut down Bagram, get the private contractors out of Iraq and Afghanistan. Rebuild their schools and businesses that have been destroyed to help them become independent again and cut off their need for Taliban/Mahdi Army support. REsettle the millions of refugees and help the international community see America as a positive nation that was unfortunately set astray by fear and anger.
Will he do it? Doubtful. But if he doesn't, then no harm the release of those photos could do is as much of a threat as the reality of the nation we've become. A nation that not only tolerates abhorant actions, but embraces them all in the base instincts of fear, greed and laziness.
Hopefully humanity will one day learn to be humane.
You can see the crazy in their eyes!
