Romney: The president's inattention and dereliction have reminded me of the Northwest Airline pilots who became so distracted with things of little importance that they lost their way, which is exactly what this president has done in Afghanistan. In this case with greater consequence.

Where the heck was Romney's new found teabag concern about Afghanistan for the eight neglectful years of the Bush administration; just like the tea bagger's equally hypocritical concern about the deficit nowadays. How superficial and shallow their empty speeches and words are when their deeds of feigning concern are not a genuine gesture. The problems inherited by President Obama on both these issues of Afghanistan and the deficit are due to Romney and GOP constituent's eight years of partisan silence, negligent, lack of concern and dereliction. Romney is a fraud, a coward and a hypocrite who uses our men and women of the military as issues for his own political gain. Just another GOP low life with no credibility.

Obama's doing the exact opposite of what Romney suggests. Rather than bogging down in the details -- 20,000 troops, or 30,000 or 40,000? -- he's working on the big picture -- what do we intend to accomplish and by when?
When it comes to committing military force, the smart, non-Romney thing to do, is first figure out what to accomplish and by when. Only then do you move on to the next step -- figuring out which resources to use and how to employ them.

Obama's Afghanistan policy is just like Bush's, the only difference is the salesman. I'm hopeful that Obama will announce a change in policy (i.e. getting out and sending humanitarian resources), but until he makes that announcement, why defend him?? Because he's better than Bush?

It's not happening at all. There's nothing to indicate that Obama differs from Bush on Afghanistan. His stalling does not mean that we are pulling out.
I agree with the Romney-blasting defenses of Obama written, but Romney's comment is a good one. Obama has his priorities off. The top three are the "wars", the economy and jobs. Obama has assured us he can do more than one thing at a time, but why is he not doing the right things for Americans. He just may be 'dithering' if after 10 months he has no plan for Afghanistan.
The Bush Administration backburnered Afghanistan to fight their little war in Iraq.
The problems that Obama faces, the problems stemming from systematic neglect and outright ignorance of Afghanistan, plus its proximity to Pakistan and its TESTED, DEPLOYABLE NUCLEAR WEAPONS, all came to us courtesy of the Bush Administration and Republicans like Mitt Romney.
You would have it that it's Obama's fault that nothing is being done. 10 months - contrasted to 7+ *years*.
Shadowgm, not many can match my thorough disgust with all things Bush. And I concur that Romney sounds like Obama on the campaign trail... lots of disagreement but no specifics. But I think my point is valid: Obama came into office knowing the Afghanistan situation, and he even increased the number of troops. Now, if he is rethinking it, he sure is taking his time, and taking his time while our soldiers sweltered in another Afghan summer. Lots of Air Force One miles when he could have been sitting at his desk or camped at Camp David giving the matter his total concentration. So don't compare Bushes wastrel ways with our better expectations from Obama. He hasn't been there since day one on this.
If Romney is such a genius---what's HIS plan? Criticize and judge others? That's not an action plan, and we already have enough opinionated and pedantic fools like him already. Oh I get it---let's just try the old GOP plan---you know, the one with the known track record of failure?
