I'm thrilled at this news. This makes me feel that there may yet be hope for India becoming a more modern, progressive society. Of course, this is only the beginning. There is still a disconcerting amount of opposition to this court decision. And just as Obama's rise to the presidency brought out the scary, racist nutjobs in the US, this court ruling will most certainly bring out the scary, anti-gay nutjobs here in India. Which makes me very concerned for the physical safety of gay people in India. I really hope that local police and court officials will do their job in supporting this ruling, and thereby allow gay people in India to be their full selves without suffering harmful consequences.
