i had extremely mixed feelings between laughing at what bill maher was doing and recalling how much the site throws a fit at the violent rhetoric thrown at democrats leaders/supporters (and rightly so.)
If W. was drunk and staggering around in the street, I'm sure you wouldn't hesitate to him.
a lot of people here have a fit when we see a depiction of these fantasies expressed towards obama. so how is maher, who has already fantasized about killing bankers on his show, any different?

Huckabee commuted the sentence of the guy who shot four WA cops. It made the news recently, did you hear about it? Read teh link anyway.
I am aware of the recent controversy about the Huck and I did read the link.

I saw part of this last night and thought the same thing.
Maher is one guy. "These fantasies expressed towards Obama" are routinely conducted by a group of people who are rallied by a network (Fox) the on-air personalities (Hannity, Beck etc.) and elected officials who cheer on the behavior.
Ya! Effigy bashing! But in a way i hope you're kidding, but only because the theory of political relativity dictates that the moral compass aligns with the majority of the populace.
If we were a barbarous people the compass would flip in favor of the Republican point of view. That's when the Republicans would be aligned with the populace, and bashing supposedly weak and unpatriotic democrats.
In neither case would the two sides and points of view be equivalent.
Maher is aligned with the compass - [magnetic North]. That's harmonizing, just like in nature. that explains why he's OK to be on TV but that doesn't make it right on the moral compass [True North], so ya, Maher and Leno are a bit off from the true moral compass.

A few weeks ago, Jay had Limbaugh on, who stopped and backed up to hit the cutout of Al Gore a second time. I thought it was childish and showed what an immature punk Rush really is.
So I'm beyond disappointed in Maher for being equally as childish and ridiculous (despite being a huge fan).
Maher can be an arrogant, self absorbed doofus, but I'll take a stupid, harmless sophomoric display of humor over global mass murder, epic theft/rape and historic national humiliation any day.
The stink of the Bush presidencies will saturate this country for decades.

I still need to laugh anyway. I thought it was great. I would have done the same thing to a cardboard Bush without hesitation. Maher nailed it with the texting, IPOD and makeup. Those folks make me crazy (er).
much of the obama policies/decisions are due to the BUSH legacy. now we're being told we can't continue to blame/reveal the BUSH legacy and i see that chatter is having an affect on democrats also. i just find it somewhat interesting that until a few months ago everything was clinton's fault now everything is obama's fault .........let's just skip the chimp legacy. this is part of the strategy to keep many loud republicans in the extreme spectrum. if your somewhat sensible and understand instant gratification does not apply you may agree with democrats(bipartisanship) and get something done. but of course the Republicans don't want bipartisanship because they're preoccupied with the next election. i'm sick of it.

This is the real Cheney legacy.
Cheney conspired to defraud the American government. Think about that for a moment. That is such an achilles heel for such a powerful nation - and we all thought power equals security... but apparently anyone with enough ambition and corporate support, can climb their way up to the drivers seat and take America for a spin.
Obviously Cheney, the man himself wants us to think about his predicament and take pity on him, but all i can think about is how many other "Cheneys" there are in the country, all lining up for the presidency right now, and for as long as Cheney is on the outside calling the shots they will continue to expand in their ranks. [that's bad]
Consider the fact that Cheney is a Black Ops kinds guy to begin with and you can see the possibility of organ transmutation going on between branches under the influence of the Cheney.
There is a great deal Cheney hopes we never find out, but that will only ensure that it continues to happen.
How can you take offense at the scheiss-for-brains that hang or burn President Obama in effigy, wish for Speaker Pelosi to be poisoned, threaten President Clinton if he steps into South Carolina, then intentionally HIT A CUTOUT OF AN EX-PRESIDENT - TWICE?!?

I have held Maher at a certain level of respect (high level, that is) for years. I still respect him, but feel he screwed up here.

Ya, it is no use trying to shock the RepubliBushies with outcries of anger. I feel like this is a Leno Show writers thing. Maher is noted for his reasoned discourse, not this kind of thing.
