Dave N.: The famed 9/11 widow -- one of the people who helped force the creation of the 9/11 Commission and one of the leaders of the 9/11 victims' families organization -- went on with Lawrence O'Donnell last night and countered the right's favorite new fearmongering meme, namely, that holding civilian trials for the 9/11 conspirators in New York might set them free.
O'Donnell: Some of the victims' families of 9/11 have indicated that they're not pleased with this move to New York. How do you react to this?
Breitweiser: I think those families seem to be indicating a sense of anger or fear. And I think really, to be feeling those types of things, it doesn't fit my personality. I think that that's bowing to the terrorists. I think there is no better place than the Southern District of New York to be having these prosecutions heard. I think it's an open forum. And I think it speaks to the world that we are in fact a nation of laws. And frankly, I think, after eight years of the Bush administration we've got a lot of work in restoring our legitimacy to the rest of the world, that we are indeed a just nation that follows the rule of law.
Take that, Bill O'Reilly.

I think there is plenty of evidence that they committed premeditated acts and they should be joining KSM in a NY or DC courtroom.
What evidence? I haven't seen any that is convincing and I find it hard to believe that a group that is so inept and was so profoundly caught off guard on 9/11 could be directly responsible for 9/11.
I want to give her a big hug of gratitude for saying those things. And it was publicly broadcast -- I'm amazed.
What a depth we have sunk to, to be surprised that our craven broadcast media would even air this.

I've never been able to understand when the right wing started saying the 9/11 widows were complaining all the time and they hated them. If Coulter's or any of the other right wingers family were involved they would have still been crying on the air all the time.

The Republicans are chicken-shit turds with a yellow streak running the entire length of that party. They walk around crowing about how tough and bad they think they are, but in reality they cower in the corner every time. COMPLETE COWARDS.
If the Bush admin hadn't screwed up everything they touched for 8 years then there wouldn't be any worries. The Republicans(and some Dems) in Congress were so sure that EVERYTHING Bush did was OK that no one questioned his decisions. Now those same decisions are going to come back to haunt those people. Maybe SOMEONE should have put more thought into this shit BEFORE they began torturing people.
The Republicans did the same thing with the Sen. Franken amendment (SA.2588). Those that voted against it surely didn't put much thought into the political ramifications of their actions, much less the moral questions that it raised. Sadly the Republicans were only upset that their vote was made public. They won't even stand by their own convictions. Man up Nancy. Or be COMPLETE COWARDS.
This involves the biggest act of terrorism on American and we're going to try them in court with all the requisite "due process of law"?
Good! This ought to do more to earn the U.S. world *RESPECT* than any "shock and awe" would. Do you ever wonder if the Extreme Court had decided correctly and Al Gore had been President on 9/11: would he have heeded the warnings of the FBI and been able to prevent the plane crashes?

While hindsight can be 20/20, there's an episode of The Family Guy where Peter gets to go back in time. He doesn't marry Lois. Al Gore is President and he has captured obl with his bare hands. There are a host of other things that were f-ed up that were fixed and when Peter wants to return to the repair the past, Brian tries to talk him out of it. What a fantasy!
I don't think 9/11 would have happened had Gore been in office, because he's not the type to give the terrorists what they wanted, the way Chimpy and his bunch so eagerly did.
Plus Gore would've actually read the "Bin Laden Determined To Strike" memo instead of being on vacation all the time.
He also would have acted on it...I saw a clip from CNN showing Bush in a golf cart and the date on the video was 8/7/2001....all Bush was talking about was Saddam......
saw the tape only once, of course, and they obviously 'corrected' the situation.....
I just wish we would

Unfortunately, for the most part... I feel the dark ages still muddy jurisprudence, though not surprisingly.

Love her idealism but we are not a just nation that follows the rule of law. Our rule of law is whatever makes a profit. We put profits over people even to the point of having our wars for profits to promote and keep our need for a mega industrial military complex.
The terrorists know we put profits over people with our capitalism why do you think they hit our twin towers, the finance center of america. This country has been in rapid self decline every since. And we think we are winning the war on terror. Who really won after 9/11.

A nation that prefers its wars for profits and imperialism over health insurance for all of its citizens is no just nation. Until we americans look into the mirror and see ourselves for what we are, nothing much will change. Change must come within us. And americans don’t expect your journalists to tell you these realities. To risky for their potential reduced profits for them to do such a thing.
We are an imperialist nation it is that simple to see if we can step aside from our conditioned patrotism and nationalism and self righteousness for one second.

the elite will see to it that even a show trial will not happen ... they will not take the chance of the truth of the 911 coming out and the truth about the torture. There will be no trial. If these so called "terrorists" got a fair an public hearing they would probably be found innocent, and be entitled to compensation for being tortured.
