From CNN's new State of the Union, Ed Gillespie suddenly loves him some bi-partisanship and is against nasty partisan attacks. Coming from one of the nastiest, most partisan administrations which subscribed to the Karl Rove/Lee Atwater school of politics, this is pretty rich. Now it's not good for the country to act that way. Gee Ed, thanks for coming around to that way of thinking now that the Democrats are in charge. Mighty kind of you.

KING: You mentioned you're a former RNC chairman. Gloria and I have talked about this quite a bit since the election, whither the Republican Party? Obama comes in with a clear majority. He comes in with the good will of American people, even those who didn't vote for him.

And it's a "Who's on first?" moment for the Republican Party. Who is the leader of the Republican Party, former chairman Ed Gillespie?

Who is the leader, right now?

And what is the strategy when it comes to dealing with this new president?

GILLESPIE: Well, I think the foremost leaders will be the leaders in the House and the Senate, Senator Mitch McConnell, the Republican leader there, and John Boehner in the House.

And I think they pursued an appropriate strategy, which is there are areas where we can agree, we will agree and we'll work with the president-elect, soon to be the president. Where there are areas where there are principle disagreements, we'll disagree.

I do think, and I encourage my fellow Republicans and people who share my more conservative philosophy that we not fall prey to trying to retaliate from the kind of viciousness and the kind of bitter attacks, personal attacks against President Bush that we saw from the left in the past eight years.

We can make a stand on principle. And we can oppose on policy without -- you know, engaging in that kind of harsh, personal, nasty rhetoric. It's not good for the process. It's not good for the country.

And, look, I, obviously, was hoping for a different outcome in the election. I'm excited, as an American, that we're going to make history with the first African-American to be elected president.

And if I'm invited back or in a position to comment, I will be careful to make clear that, you know, I want the president to succeed. He will be my president on Tuesday. I am an American; I may disagree with his policies, and I hope that my friends on the right will adopt that tone.

Pete Seeger Restores "This Land is Your Land"

From greendem at Daily KOS:

The "subversive" verses from Woody Guthrie's This Land is Your Land were sung by the American people today on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.

One of our great national anthems has been restored.

Here are the original verses added back into the song today.

There was a big high wall there that tried to stop me;

Sign was painted, it said private property;

But on the back side it didn't say nothing;

That side was made for you and me.

In the shadow of the steeple I saw my people,

By the relief office I seen my people;

As they stood there hungry,

I stood there asking

Is this land made for you and me?

Nobody living can ever stop me,

As I go walking that freedom highway;

Nobody living can ever make me turn back

This land was made for you and me.

SNL spoofs Dick Cheney's complete and utter lack of regret for anything that's happened for the last eight years and his willingness to basically stick his middle finger in the eye of the American public during the Bush administration's revisionist history legacy tour.

D.L. Hughley talks to Peter Beinart and Bay Buchanan about Bush's exit speech, the future of the Republican party and the spinelessness of Harry Reid. Bay Buchanan as usual has about as little introspection as George Bush. I commend Hughley for managing to get through a segment with her and not allowing her to talk over everyone the entire time. Hughley is spot on with what's wrong with Harry Reid and the Democratic establishment. I think Hughley is also right about Obama in the sense that he's already showing himself to be more of a leader than Bush ever was, but that's a pretty low bar to hurdle. It goes without saying that the higher bar will be whether he can clean up the mess he's inherited.

From Countdown. Keith sums up the last eight years of what the Bush administration has brought us.

Looks like the Bush legacy tour has finally ended, thank goodness. Rachel reminds us that despite all of their spin over the last few weeks the P.R. blitz hasn't worked out so well for them. Bush's poll numbers are still in the tank despite their best efforts.

Matt Taibbi gives his views on how Bush will be remembered as well and they discuss his latest article published at Rolling Stone: Bush Apologizes: The Farewell Interview We Wish He'd Give.

Matt Taibbi is one of my favorite guests on Real Time with Bill Maher and he's an equal opportunity abuser at Rolling Stone and on Real Time which probably has a lot to do with why I like him so much. He doesn't pull any punches when it comes to pointing out the follies of our political class regardless of party.

His book The Great Derangement just came out in paperback.

Jon Stewart takes on the "Bush kept us safe from a terrorist attack" talking point we hear all too often these days from the bobble heads in our "main stream" media who are doing their best to help Bush revise his legacy.

Dave N: Let's face it: When George W. Bush claims he's "kept us safe," it's kind of like the babysitter who lets the toddler wander into traffic the first hour she's on the job, then herds all the remaining kids into the basement and locks them in to compensate. So when the parents get home, she says: "See, I kept them all safe after the toddler got run over."

From The Daily Show, Samantha B. gives her report on just what the GOP needs to revise their "packaging to the average consumer". Rebranding.

It certainly fits in with George W. Bush's History Revisionism Legacy Rehab Tour.

On Countdown following George Bush's final address to the nation Matthews pretty well tears into Bush and slams him for the continuation of his revisionist history tour and for whether he was ever qualified to lead the country. It goes without saying that some consistency out of Matthews would be nice but on this occasion I think the criticism was spot on.
