Looks like Schwarzengger running away with it

This is disappointing news, but hardly surprising since nothing has been done to capitalize on Arnold's humiliating defeat in the special election last fall.

Kos has the latest polling numbers and they look terrible for Angelides.

Remembering The Last Katrina, Anticipating The Next One

Media coverage of the Katrina disaster continues to be on orgy of emotion without analysis, as Harry Shearer observes. Harry suggests some heavy reading instead of this light viewing, to better understand the history of this tragedy - and its preventability.

It's also important to note that the same incompetent leadership that brought you the FEMA f**kup is still in place, and that there are more preventable tragedies waiting to happen.

As I wrote nearly a year ago, the next "Katrina" may very well be a terrorist attack using nuclear materials. And have I mentioned lately that Rumsfeld's military left radiological materials lying around in Iraq for anyone to take, or that some of it was still unsecured two years after we invaded?

The bottom line: the next "Katrina" could well be a nuclear attack on the US, and Halliburton's already prepared to profit from the clean-up.

Have a nice day.

The O'Reilly Excuse

I forgot to make a video clip of this one.

O'Reilly is good at trying to get the administration off from all its mistakes, but he couldn't get the nasty dude off without a ticket.

Schumer comes up roses on Net Neutrality

This is very good news for all of us.

MyDD: I'm no fan of Chuck Schumer's political decision-making, as many of you know. As a legislator, though, he can be great sometimes. He did single-handedly keep the Bankrupcty Bill from passing for four years in the Senate. And now he's out on net neutrality...

"I believe that Internet access for consumers must be protected, and that's why I support net neutrality. As the Internet continues to grow and evolve, we must make sure that average consumers can still use the web to learn, shop, and communicate. The Internet has the power to enhance one of the most fundamental values of our democracy: freedom of speech. That's why I support the free flow of information on the Internet and enforceable network neutrality.

C&L's Late Nite Music Club with Mahavishnu Orchestra

The original incarnation of the Mahavishnu orchestra was one of the premier and most influential fusion bands of the early ’70’s. Based on the flaming guitar work of John McLaughlin (who had worked with Miles Davis and The Tony Williams Lifetime previously), keyboardist Jan Hammer (of Miami Vice fame), violinist Jerry Goodman, Rick Laird on bass, and the incomparable Billy Cobham on drums.

Do you really think...

that the JonBenet Ramsey case will cool down on 24/7? They've invested too much time already on this nut John Mark Karr. Jeralyn follows the case and is all over TV tonight...

Will Howard Kurtz continue to put John Hinderaker on his CNN show?

Howard Kurtz, The Washington Post's media critic, has a long piece today lamenting how dangerous it has become for journalists in war zones. He cites as examples the Gaza kidnapping of the two Fox journalists as well as yesterday's missile attack by the Israeli air force on an armored vehicle in Gaza (prominently marked "PRESS") which was carrying journalists from Reuters (the Israelis claim it was accidental). Kurtz solemnly notes that war journalists "risk their lives and put their families through great stress simply to tell the rest of us what is transpiring in faraway lands."

In addition to his Post column, Kurtz also hosts a CNN show called Reliable Sources, devoted to discussing the media. One of Kurtz's favorite guests is Powerline blogger John Hinderaker. Hinderaker wrote a post last night about the missile attack on the Reuters journalists and this is what he said (emphasis added):

Given Reuters's coverage of the conflict in Lebanon, it would perhaps be understandable if the Israelis started firing on Reuters vehicles. Which is what Reuters now says they did.

It would be "understandable if the Israelis started firing on Reuters vehicles." Why? Because of their "coverage of the conflict in Lebanon." Shouldn't someone who defends and justifies violent attacks on journalists because of what they write be considered out of the mainstream, too reprehensible to be given a CNN platform? Why would CNN want to put someone on its broadcasts who advocates violent attacks on journalists due to what they write? And if arguing that Reuters journalists are legitimate war targets who can and should be shot at doesn't render someone an untouchable right-wing extremist -- more accurately, a sociopath -- what would be sufficient to justify that characterization?

For whatever reasons, the media continues to be perfectly amiable with people, including Hinderaker, who advocate that journalists (such as the NYT's Jim Risen and even Kurtz's own colleague, the Post's Dana Priest) be imprisoned for the articles they write about the Bush administration. That's odd enough. But are they really going to continue to provide platforms to people like Hinderaker who explicitly justify violent attacks on journalists due to animosity towards their employers over the content of their journalism?

Lieberman's Supporters

Osama-Liebermaa.jpg Hmmm, a Lieberman supporter. Pretty low to accuse Ned Lamont of being supported by Osama bin Laden, but Joe's got no place else to go.

Tom Swan says: "It's one of the most despicable acts I've ever heard of a candidate doing. It's more and more apparent that Lieberman has no f&*ing shame."

I wonder if Chris Matthews will ask Joe Lieberman to tell this guy to stop. Remember when he interviewed Ned Lamont and asked him to tell the people (if there were any) responsible to restore Lieberman's website when it crashed? The media instantly blamed Lamont's campaign instead of investigating.

Katrina Videos

I'm going to be posting a lot of my Katrina videos from last year this week to mark the anniversary. If anybody wants to make compilation videos using my clips--I'm going to give away a couple of books to the people that make the best ones. Just search the site or go to the calendar. Email Crooksandliarsvideo@gmail.com with your work. If you use music, just make sure that the dialogue from the clips can be heard and the music isn't too loud. A lot of times music isn't even required and sometimes ruins the good editing that is done. Get your entry in by Thursday and Friday and I'll try to post on Friday and the weekend hopefully...But, they have to be good...:-)
